Pennsburg

Our Pennsburg Location

John and Amy Hunsberger purchased a home on Main Street in Pennsburg and converted it into a comfortable family funeral home. He and his wife operated the Pennsburg home until 1974, when John suffered a stroke. The business was sold to Michael Zimmerman, who continued operation until 1982, when Franklin and Betty Falk purchased the home. They continued operations with the assistance of their son, Frank and his wife, Donna.

In 1999, after purchasing the Shelly home on the corner of Second and Main Streets, Pennsburg, Frank and Donna completed a major expansion and renovation project that joined the original funeral home to the Shelly home. Interestingly, both structures had been built by Charles Haring, a prominent builder in the area. Both structures contained classic American Four Square architectural details, such as stained glass windows, pocket doors, and chestnut trim, that are maintained today.

The funeral home contains a spacious entry and foyer area that doubles as an art gallery featuring local artist. A comfortable chapel can be used for either funeral or memorial services. It is light and airy. There is a special area for children, as well as several rooms for friends and families to gather. Our goal is to offer you the most comfortable setting for a very difficult time in your life.

We are conveniently located on Main Street (Route 29) just 2 blocks north of Route 663. Our funeral home was originally the Hunsberger Funeral Home. In 1999, we completed a major renovation that joined the original funeral home to the Shelly home on the corner of Second and Main Street, creating a very spacious facility. Our theme features a Southern Magnolia flower because we are fortunate enough to have one of these special trees in our backyard here. It is rare for this area. The tree was planted by Mr. Shelly, an avid gardener, in the 1950's. Walk by on a summer's night and you can smell the mild lemon scent in the evening air.

We are easy to find. Our parking area is located in the rear of the building with an entrance on Second Street.

Our Chapel

Our chapel is light and airy and decorated in soft colors. The space is flexible, allowing for large and small gatherings. The room can be set for traditional viewing services or for memorial services. Often, families choose to bring pictures or other mementos to personalize the setting. We can help you produce a video tribute that can be played throughout the calling period. We can also personalize musical selections to meet all tastes.

Lobby / Gallery

We have entrances into our lobby from both the front, Main Street side, as well as from the rear parking area. Both entrances feature leaded and beveled glass doors. The art gallery provides a transition to the more solemn areas of our facility. The artists who have displayed here range from painters to metal workers. The exhibit changes every 8 to 12 weeks, providing a pleasant diversion for our guests and a welcome venue for the artists.

Selection Area

The selection area is designed with the latest in consumer research, creating a comfortable setting to select items such as urns, caskets, and vaults. The area is well lit and features displays of "quarter-cut" casket models, miniature vaults, and full size urns. The area is always accessible, even during services, for you to browse.

We offer a wide range of cremation products including full size, medium size, and keepsake size urns; cremation jewelry, Comfort Cubs, Cremation Vaults, and Cremation Caskets. We can also special order products to meet your specific needs.

Our casket and vault display features modified caskets and miniature vaults to create a more comfortable selection area. Many of the products can be personalized with embroidery, changeable corners, and interior and exterior color choices.

Children's Area

Our children's area is available so that even our littlest guests feel welcome and comfortable. Featuring a table that is just the right size for them and toys, the area is just far enough away from the main chapel area to allow them to not have to "be quiet" yet close enough for them to see and hear all that is going on. Children understand best when they are a part of the overall process of grief and bereavement.

We have discovered that many parents are reluctant to bring children to services, fearing that they may misbehave. Our Children's area provides a convenient spot for the little ones to call their own.
