Our Heritage

Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc.
Our Heritage

We are the continuation of two "Mom and Pop" funeral homes. Our Hellertown establishment was started in 1955 by Franklin and Betty Falk. They purchased a home and a barn at the northern end of Hellertown and converted the property into a funeral home through many hours of personal hard work and physical labor. Franklin, who graduated from the former Eckel's Mortuary School in Philadelphia on the GI Bill after World War II, felt that grieving families should be offered personal service in a comfortable setting. He was assisted by his wife, Betty, until they retired in 1990.

In a similar fashion, John and Amy Hunsberger purchased a home on Main Street in Pennsburg and converted it into a comfortable family funeral home. He and his wife operated the Pennsburg funeral home until 1974, when John suffered a stroke. The business was sold to Michael Zimmerman, who continued operation until 1982, when Franklin and Betty Falk purchased the home. They continued operations with the assistance of their son, Frank and his wife, Donna.

In 1999, after purchasing the Shelly home on the corner of Second and Main Streets, Pennsburg, Frank and Donna completed a major expansion and renovation project that joined the original funeral home to the Shelly home. Interestingly, both structures had been built by Charles Haring, a prominent builder in the area. Both structures contained classic American Four Square architectural details, such as stained glass windows, pocket doors, and chestnut trim, that are maintained today.

In 2003, another major expansion project was completed to the Hellertown facility, doubling the space and adding an on-site crematory. The architectural details mimic those within the Pennsburg facility, creating a unified design that is comforting and spacious for our guests.
