What is a witnessing?

A witnessing is another way to say a final goodbye to a loved one before the cremation. A common misconception of cremations is that they take place in dark environments. However, at our cremation witnessing window, family and friends can gather and take part in the process of saying their goodbyes in this often-missed opportunity in a quiet, comforting setting.

What occurs at a witnessing ceremony?

Like a memorial service or graveside service, a witnessing occurs in a room that is well-lit and comfortable. Once friends and family gather for the witnessing, the casket is placed in the viewing room next to the crematory doors. Participants will share comforting words and eulogies about their loved one and then, when the time is right, the casket is placed into the cremation enclosure, starting the cremation process.

Why do people want a witnessing?

For some people, it is simply a nice way to say a final goodbye. For others, especially those of Sikh, Hindu, and Jainism faiths, witnessing the cremation is an important part of their faith and culture. At Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, we have state-of-the-art equipment as well as expanded our space to create a warm and welcoming environment for you and your family to witness the cremation.
